The challenge: Improve this chart that highlights trends in news sources among the public
The easy simplification would be to remove all data labels except for the 2001 and 2010 bookends. However, since the purpose it meant to show what has changed over the last decade I’d be tempted to just use those data points in a simple column chart. This lets readers immediately see what has changed. Internet up, everything else down.
If the author is set on including all data points I think it would be a good time to use stacked column charts with identical axis scales.
In both cases I was tempted to make the title more descriptive, like “Internet Increasingly Top Source for Following the News”…
Which of these do you prefer?
